Haemoglobin: The RED Pigment

A pigment is a chemical that has a specific colour. Biological pigments colour our bodies and body products, but this isn't their primary function. One important pigment is haemoglobin, the red pigment found in our blood. Haemoglobin combines readily with oxygen, and carries it all around our body. Oxygen is then used during the process of aerobic respiration, for the buildup of energy.
